Statement: Joe Biden’s Dishonest Attack on Medicare for All
Monday, Presidential candidate Joe Biden announced his healthcare proposal, which would make some modest changes to the ACA, including a public buy-in option.
He also released a video announcement, which he largely used as an attempt to take a swipe at Medicare for All proponents in the healthcare movement. This comes shortly after he insinuated that Medicare for All would somehow delay care for cancer patients.
“I knew the Republicans would do everything in their power to repeal Obamacare, they still are, but I’m surprised that so many Democrats are running on getting rid of it”. He said
Business Initiative for Health Policy released the following statement from their Executive Director Dylan Dusseault:
“Vice President Biden is using a cheap rhetorical trick to try and paint Medicare for All advocates as a threat to the healthcare gains made under President Obama. Here’s the reality: 9 years into the ACA, 27 million people are still uninsured, underinsured rates have skyrocketed, premiums for businesses and workers continue to rise, and we still have worse health outcomes than our peer nations. We have to do better.
The ACA was never supposed to be about just getting more people covered under inadequate health plans. It was supposed to be about universal and comprehensive coverage people could actually afford to use. Medicare for All is the way we achieve that goal.
Vice President Biden’s language here is a disservice to voters, patients, American businesses and workers, and to the healthcare legacy of President Obama.”
